Handmade Instruments by Mark Jennings
Mark's individually handmade instruments are of the highest class. His work follows the 17th and 18th Century Cremonese traditions of Amati,
Stradivari and Guarneri. The study and analysis of these great Master's instruments has led Mark into producing a quality of violin that is played by
both soloist and orchestral musician at home and abroad.
Throughout the making process sound is paramount, working towards an excellent sonorous character, giving ease of response and an eveness of
tone. Timber is chosen carefully for both its acoustic and physical properties, each piece of wood is worked to achieve these sound requirements.
The model, the arching, the set-up, even the varnish all influence the final result.
Mark's instruments can be viewed and taken on approval from his own workshop. Alternatively from Malcom Tysoe Violins or Bridgewood and
Neitzert, see links page for details. Mark also exhibits his work twice a year at the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove, Cornwall.
Violins
Stradivari or Guarneri pattern instruments.
The Stradivari pattern instruments have a back length of 355mm.
The Guarneri pattern instruments have a slightly shorter back length of 352mm.
From £5500.
Violas
Guarneri or Brescian pattern instruments.
Can be made any size up to 16 ½'' length of back.
From £6200.
Cellos
Stradivari or Forster based instruments.
Usually made with 29'' or 30'' length of back.
From £10,000.
